Mr Gay Monde 2013 - Voici les premiers candidats

C'est officiel ! Les noms des premiers candidats à Mr Gay Monde viennent d'être dévoilés. Et il y a du lourd !

Tout d'abord, c'est un grand honneur de voir la France présente pour la deuxième année consécutive. Comme vous le savez, c'est Armando Santos qui sera notre représentant et nous sommes tous derrière lui pour le soutenir ! Des visages connus également. Le plus connu du groupe est Miguel Ortiz Vera, Mr Gay Europe 2012. Comme il n'avait pas participé à Mr Gay Monde 2012, il participe en 2013. La même chose pour Janne Tiilikainen, Mr Gay Finlande, qui avait été dans le top 5 à Mr Gay Europe 2012. Des candidats déjà confirmés pour Mr Gay Europe 2013 sont également présents comme Michael Sinan pour le Danemark, Alessio Cuvello pour l'Italie ou Robbie O'Bara pour l'Irlande. A noter que les participants de Mr Gay Monde ne sont pas obligatoirement les mêmes qu'à Mr Gay Europe.

Comme chaque année et ce n'est pas surprenant étant donné la situation, l'Afrique est le continent le moins représentés. En revanche, l'Asie est plus présente qu'en 2012.

It is official! The names of the first Mr Gay World delegates have been revealed. And there are some good surprises!

First, this is a big honour to see France participating another year. As you know, we will be represented by Armando Santos and we are all mobilized to support him! You can follow his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ArmandoSantosFrance

There are some known faces as well. The most famous one is obviously Miguel Ortiz Vera, Mr Gay Europe 2012. As he did not participate to Mr Gay World 2012, he will be part of Mr Gay World 2013. The same situation for Janne Tiilikainen for Finland, who ended up in the top 5 of Mr Gay Europe 2012. Some other candidates we already knew because they are confirmed for Mr Gay Europe 2013, like Michael Sinan for Denmark, Alessio Cuvello for Italy and Robbie O'Bara for Ireland. Note that the delegates for Mr Gay World are not always the same as for Mr Gay Europe contest.

As every year, we will not be surprised because of the situation on the spot to see that Africa is the least represented continent. However, Asia is more represented than in 2012.

Robbie O'Bara - Mr Gay Irlande 2013 - Je veux contribuer à améliorer l'égalité des droits

Encore quelques mois avant l'élection de Mr Gay Europe à Prague et Mr Gay Monde à Anvers. Partons à la découverte des candidats et commençons par l'Irlande qui sera représentée par Robbie O'Bara. Interview :

Benjamin - Peux-tu te présenter en quelques mots ?

Robbie O'Bara - Salut ! Je m'appelle Robbie et je suis étudiant en médecine à Dublin et super excité de représenter l'Irlande à Mr Gay Europe, Mr Gay Monde et les World Out Games cet été !

J'ai des origines françaises, écossaises et japonaises. Je suis né sur l'ile de Vancouver au Canada où j'ai étudié la biologie avant de déménager à Sydney en Australie pour mon master international de santé publique. Puis j'ai déménagé en Irlande où j'ai commencé l'école médicale au Trinity College de Dublin pour obtenir (je l'espère!) mon diplôme l'année prochaine ! :) Ensuite, je souhaite travailler dans le domaine de la santé sexuelle.

Benjamin - Comment s'est passé ton coming-out ? Comment ont réagit tes proches ?

Robbie O'Bara - Ce fut un chemin difficile pour moi et il m'a fallu plusieurs année autour de mes 20 ans. Certains proches me disaient que si je voulais être docteur, il ne fallait pas en parler car personne ne voudrait laisser ses enfants à un docteur gay.

Ils ne pouvaient pas mieux se tromper ! J'ai aujourd'hui la chance d'avoir beaucoup d'amour et de soutien dans ma vie, mais je pense que le chemin vers l'acceptation a été bien trop long...et continue encore !

J'ai récemment fait mon coming-out à ma grand-mère, la dernière personne dans ma vie à qui je n'en avais pas parlé. Ce fut drôle, elle m'a dit qu'il n'y avait pas de problème tant que je ne faisais pas la couverture des journaux, mais je lui ai montré un article paru dans le Irish Times Magazine sur mon et nous avons beaucoup rigolé ! Je l'aime tellement.

Il y a peu, j'ai vu un discours de Dan Savage à propos du coming-out à ses parents et le besoin d'avoir le courage, la forse et l'amour. Voici le lien vers la vidéo http://youtu.be/TxAa2Hd7q8k - Dommage de ne pas l'avoir vu quand j'étais plus jeune !

Benjamin - En tant que Mr Gay Irlande, quel est ton message pour la communauté LGBT irlandaise et pour les Irlandais en général ?

Robbie O'Bara - En Irlande, le concours Mr Gay s'articule principalement autour de la collecte de fond pour la principale clinique VIH du pays, la clinique GUIDE. Cela me tient particulièrement à coeur et j'ai déjà travaillé au GUIDE dans le passé lors de mes études. Ensemble, moi et 19 autres jeunes hommes de toute l'Irlande, nous avons récolté 19 000 € pour la clinique afin qu'elle puisse mener un projet qui offre une thérapie du visage pour les personnes qui souffrent de fonte musculaire suite à un traitement antiviral. Pour moi, c'est un moyen de soutenir la communauté et s'assurer que tout le monde puisse s'intégrer.

J'ai aussi été bénévole à l'espace santé gay de la clinique et travaillé sur le traitement post exposition au VIH et je vais faire une présentation de notre audit au forum santé gay irlandais prochainement.

Benjamin - Tu vas participer aux concours Mr Gay Europe et Mr Gay Monde. Comment te prépares-tu pour ces événements ? Quelles sont tes motivations pour l'Europe et le monde ?

Robbie O'Bara - Haha. Je ne sais pas vraiment comment me préparer ! Pour être honnête, j'ai vraiment hâte de participer aux concours Mr Gay Europe et Mr Gay Monde pour rencontrer tout le monde et me battre pour la communauté LGBT et la rendre plus forte, plus vibrante et plus ouverte. Notre communauté ne connaît pas les frontières and je veux contribuer à améliorer l'égalité des droits, tout en luttant contre la marginalisation. On va bien s'amuser !

Oh, j'ai aussi travaillé avec un de mes amis infirmé pour créer un costume joli et sympa pour l'épreuve en costume national. Je suis aussi inscrit pour jouer au volley-ball au World OutGames et je me suis entraîné avec mon équipe universitaire ici à Dublin !

Benjamin - Que faut-il améliorer pour la communauté LGBT en Irlande ? Et en Europe ?

Robbie O'Bara - J'ai la conviction que la santé mentale est très importante dans la communauté LGBT irlandaise et dans le monde. Des statistiques récentes ont montré l'important taux de suicide chez les jeunes gays en Irlande et le taux encore plus élevé chez les transgenres. Ce n'est pas acceptable.

La santé mentale ne doit pas être un tabou, ni même l'homosexualité ! Nous avons tous un rôle à jouer rien que dans la façon dont nous agissons avec nous même et la communauté, tout le monde peut être fort et fier dans son corps, son esprit et son être.

Benjamin - Un dernier mot pour les lecteurs de mon blog ? 

Robbie O'Bara - La vie est courte. Aime les autres et aime-toi toi-même.

Just some months to go before the Mr Gay Europe contest in Prague and Mr Gay World in Antwerp. Let's meet the delegates and get to know them better! Let's start with Ireland, which will be represented by Robbie O'Bara. Interview :

Benjamin - Can you present yourself in a few words?

Robbie O'Bara - Hi!  My name is Robbie and I am a medical student from Dublin and I'm super excited to be representing Ireland at the Mr Gay Europe, Mr Gay World and World OutGames events this summer!

I have French, Scottish and Japanese ancestry.  I was born in Canada on Vancouver Island, where I studied Biology before moving to Sydney Australia to do my Master's in International Public Health.  I then moved to Ireland and started medical school at Trinity College Dublin, and will (hopefully) graduate next year!  :) Then, I want to work in the sexual health in the futue.

Benjamin - How did you came out? How did your friends and familly react?

Robbie O'Bara -This was a difficult process for me and took a couple years around the time I turned 20.  Some very close people in my life told me that if I wanted to be a doctor that I shouldn't tell anybody; they told me that nobody would take their kids to see a gay doctor.

They couldn't have been more wrong.  I am fortunate now to have a lot of love and support in my life, but I think the process of acceptance takes far too long... and is even still going on now!

I recently came out to my grandmother, who was the last person in my life that hadn't told.  It was funny - she said it was fine as long as I don't go putting it on the front page of the newspaper, but then I showed her an article that was written about me on the front cover of the Irish Times Magazine and we both laughed!  I love her a lot.

I recently saw a speech by Dan Savage about coming out to your parents, and needing to deal with them with courage, strength and love.  The link to the video is here http://youtu.be/TxAa2Hd7q8k - I wish I had seen this when I was younger!

Benjamin - As Mr Gay Ireland, what do you stand for? What is your message to the Irish LGBT community and the Irish people?

Robbie O'Bara - In Ireland, the Mr Gay contest was actually centered mostly around fundraising for the main HIV clinic in the country, called the GUIDE clinic.  This is something that is very close to my heart, and I've actually done some work at the GUIDE clinic in the past as my college does placements there.  Together, myself and 19 other young men from across Ireland raised over €19,000 for the clinic to run a project that offers facial therapy for people who have suffered muscle wasting as a result of Anti-Retroviral medication.  For me, it's all really just about supporting our community and making sure everyone is embraced.

I've also been doing some volunteer work at the local Gay Men's Health Clinic, working on HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and I will be giving a presentation about our audit at the Irish Gay Health Forum soon.

Benjamin - You will take part to the MGE and MGW competition. How do you prepare yourself for these events? What is your motivation for Europe and the world?

Robbie O'Bara - Haha.  I'm not exactly sure how to prepare, really!  Honestly I am really looking forward to the MGE and MGW events simply to meet everyone and to stand up for the LGBT community to make it as strong, vibrant and inclusive as possible.  Our community knows no borders, and I want to push for increasing gay and human rights, while decreasing marginalization.  I think it will be fun!

Oh, I've also been working with a friend of mine, who is a nurse, to create a really fun and beautiful outfit for the national dress competition!  I've also registered to play volleyball at the World OutGames afterwords - and have been playing with my college team and practicing in the meantime here in Dublin!

5- What needs to be improve for the LGBT community in Ireland? And in Europe?

Robbie O'Bara - I believe that mental health is so important in our LGBT community both in Ireland and around the world.  Some recent statistics showed high rates of suicidality among gay youth in Ireland, and even higher rates of suicide among the transgender population.  This is unacceptable.

Mental health should never be a taboo, nor should being gay!  We all play a part in this, including the way we engage with ourselves and our community;  there is room for us all to be strong and proud in body, mind and spirit.

Benjamin - One last word for my blog readers? 

Robbie O'Bara - Life is short.  Love yourself and love those around you.  That's it!

Qui sera Mr Gay Finlande 2013 ?

Le 27 juin prochain, la Finlande vote pour élire Mr Gay Finlande, le candidat qui représentera le pays à Mr Gay Europe. Ils sont 7 candidats de toute la Finlande à vouloir marcher dans les pays de Janne Tiilikainen, Mr Gay Finlande 2012 qui a terminé dans le top 5 de Mr Gay Europe 2012.

En 2013, la Finlande demeure le dernier pays scandinave dans lequel le mariage pour tous n'est pas autorisé. Qui sera Mr Gay Finlande 2013 ? Voici les candidats en photo :

La gay pride de Cologne refuse la participation d'un groupe d'extrême droite

Après plusieurs semaines de débats, les organisateurs de la gay pride de Cologne en Allemagne (CSD Köln) ont massivement voté contre la participation du groupe Pro Köln (équivalent du FN local) à la marche des fiertés de Cologne, l'une des plus importantes d'Allemagne, en rivalité avec Berlin.

Vu de France, il s'agit d'une situation plutôt singulière : le FN qui veut défiler à une gay pride ?

Et pourtant, en Allemagne jusqu'à présent, les conservateurs (CDU) ont toujours participé aux marches des fiertés, de même que les autres partis politiques. Si l'Allemagne n'a toujours pas autorisé le mariage pour tous, l'homosexualité n'est pas un objet de débat, alors qu'en France, à travers le débat sur le mariage pour tous, c'était un débat sur l'acceptation de l'homosexualité qui a eu lieu. Ainsi, les partis politiques allemands tiennent une position plus ou moins favorable au mariage pour tous, mais jamais hostile à l'homosexualité.

En refusant la participation de Pro Köln à la marche des fiertés de Cologne, les organisateurs de la marche affirment leur opposition à un parti d'extreme droite homophobe et raciste et mettent fin à une ambiguité politique.

After several weeks of debate, the organizers of the gay pride parade in Cologne, Germany (Köln CSD) voted overwhelmingly against participation of Pro Köln (right extrem parti) to the Pride march in Cologne, one of the most important Germany with Berlin Pride.

Seen from France, it is a rather strange situation: the right extremists want to participate to a gay pride?

Yet in Germany so far, conservatives (CDU) have always participated in gay prides, as well as other political parties. If Germany has not allowed equal marriage, homosexuality is not a matter of debate, while in France, through the debate on equal marriage, it was a debate on the acceptance of homosexuality. Thus, the German political parties take a more or less favorable position for the wedding, but they are never hostile to homosexuality.

Refusing participation in the Pro Köln Cologne Pride march, the march organizers say their opposition to an extreme right party  which is homophobic and racist and end a political ambiguity.
