Il y a quelques semaines, l'Irlande a élu son nouveau représentant pour la communauté gay et je suis très heureux de vous présenter Barry Gouldsbury, Mr. Gay Irlande 2011, fraichement élu et très motivé pour faire avancer les droits LGBT en Irlande, ainsi qu'en Europe.
Some weeks ago, Ireland elected its new representatives for the gay community and I'm very glad to present you Barry Gouldsbury, Mr. Gay Ireland 2011, freshly elected and already highly motivated to contribute for LGBT rights in Ireland, and also in Europe.

Peux-tu te présenter en quelques mots ?
Could you present yourself in a few words?
Je m’appelle Barry Gouldsbury, je suis originaire de Dublin en Irlande, où je vis actuellement. Je suis coiffeur dans le centre ville. Je fais de la gym et dans mes loisirs, j’aime la muscu, le cinéma et les voyages. Je suis quelqu’un de très passionné et je fais toujours tout à 100%.
My name is Barry Gouldsbury, I'm originally from Dublin in Ireland where I also currently live. I work as a hairdresser in town centre. I am also a gymnast and am very much into fitness, my hobbies included working out, cinema and travelling. I am a very passionate person and always put 100% in everything I do.
Quand as-tu fait ton coming-out ? Comment ont réagit ta famille et tes amis ?
When did you came out? How was the reaction of your family and friends?
J’ai fait mon coming-out à 19, ce fut une période difficile pour moi, j’étais à la recherche de moi-même. J’avais mon bac à l’école entre autre. Je voulais en parler avec mes amis, nous nous sommes assis et je leur ai dit que j’étais gay. Je me souviens que j’étais très nerveux à ce moment et c’est sorti comme ça. Ils m’ont répondu qu’ils savaient déjà, ce qui m’a soulagé, et qu’ils étaient content que je leur dise, nous avons commencé à parler de garçons et je n’ai jamais eu de regrets, mes amis m’ont toujours soutenu.
I came out when I was 19; it was very hard time for me as I was still trying to find myself. I was doing my final exams at school at the time amongst other things. I turned to my friends mostly; I sat them down to tell them I was gay. I remember at the time I was really nervous and just came out with it. They told me they knew already which made me feel relieved, they were very happy that I finally told them, we started chatting about boys and I have never looked back as my friends have always been so supportive of me.
Pour quels raisons as tu candidaté pour Mr. Gay Irlande ?
Why did you candidated for Mr Gay Ireland?
Je souhaitais participer à Mr. Gay Irlande car je savais qu’il y avait beaucoup de responsabilités avec ce rôle et je sentais pouvoir les porter et faire le nécessaire pour apporter mon aide face aux problèmes actuels en m’engageant auprès des organisations et des œuvres caritatives. Je souhaitais également représenter la communauté gay d’Irlande.
My reason for entering into Mr Gay Ireland is that I knew that the role would come with a lot of responsibilities and I felt I wanted to take that on and do what is needed to help with current issues by getting involved with organisations and charities. I also wanted to represent gay men in Ireland and afar.
Quels sont tes projets en tant que Mr. Gay Irlande ? Quels sont les points à améliorer en Irlande à propos des droits LGBT ?
What are you plans/projects as Mr. Gay Ireland? What need to be improved in Ireland about LGBT rights?
Mes projets en tant que Mr. Gay Irlande sont de m’engager auprès des organisations et œuvres caritatives, afin de les aider et communiquer sur les problèmes actuels. En particulier la crise avec le VIH, qui est à un niveau alarmant dans notre pays. Nous devons contribuer à une prise de conscience plus importante sur ce sujet. Concernant les droits LGBT en Irlande, nous avons besoin d’un service civil, de droits d’adoption pour les couples homosexuels, des programmes contre l’homophobie et le droit de donner du sang.
The plan I have for myself as MGI is to get involved with organisations and charities to help with the current issues that need to be addressed. Mainly the HIV crisis, as HIV is at an alarming high in this country. We need to get as much awareness out there as possible on this matter. With regards to the LGBT rights in Ireland we need civil marriage, adoption rights for same sex couples, anti bullying programs and the right to donate blood.

About Europe, did you already travelled across Europe? What languages do you speak?
J’ai voyage à travers l’Europe et j’ai visité la France, l’Espagne, la Grèce, le Royaume-Uni, les Pays-Bas, l’Autriche, la Suisse, la Turquie, l’Italie et le Portugal. Je parle anglais et irlandais.
I have travelled across Europe and the countries I have visited are, France, Spain, Greece, UK, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey, Italy and Portugal. I speak English and Irish.
Est-ce que tu es intéressé par des projets avec d’autres pays d’Europe ?
Are you interested in projects with other countries of Europe?
Si cela est possible, je serais plus que content d’aider d’autres pays européens sur des projets en tant que représentant Mr. Gay Irlande.
If I am able to, I will be more than happy to help other European countries with projects as Mr Gay Ireland representative.
