Dominic Hunziker - Mr Gay Switzerland 2010 - It is not necessary to be Mr Gay to make things change

Dominic Hunziker est le nouveau Mr Gay Suisse. Fraichement élu, il garde la tête sur les épaules et a déjà plein de projets pour cette année. Loin de pratiquer la langue de bois, il a répondu à quelques une de mes questions :

J’ai 25 ans, je suis étudiant en architecture et je viens d’un petit village. Le week-end je suis souvent à Zurich, car mon copain y habite. Dans mon temps libre, j’aime bien aller faire la fête avec des amis, aller au cinéma, me promener au bord des lacs et des rivières, mais aussi rester tranquillement à la maison avec un repas sympa. La musique est ma passion, je chante mes propres chansons et je joue du piano.

I’m 25, I study architecture and I come from a small village. During the week-end, I mostly spend my time in Zurich, where my boyfriend lives. During my spare time, I like to go with friends to party, to theatre, outside at the lake or rivers, but I also like to stay at home with a fine dinner. Music is my passion, I sing my own songs and I play the piano.

Ich bin ein 25 jähriger Architekturstudent und komme aus einem kleinen ländlichen Dorf. Am Wochenende bin ich meist in Zürich, da mein Freund dort wohnt. Meine Freizeit verbringe ich gerne mit meinen Freunden an Partys, im Kino, draußen am See und Fluss, aber auch mal gemütlich zu Hause bei einem feinen Essen. Musik ist meine Leidenschaft, ich singe meine eigenen Lieder und spiele Klavier.

Comment s’est passé ton coming-out ? Comment l’as-tu vécu ?
How did you came out? Who did you live this moment?
Wie war dein Coming-out? Wie hast du das erlebt?

J’ai fait mon coming-out à 21 ans. Il m’a fallu du temps pour que j’accepte mon homosexualité, mais après, le dire aux autres n’a pas été trop difficile. Pendant que mes parents étaient en vacance, je leur ai envoyé un sms. Je leur ai demandé si cela posait un problème si à la place d’une belle-fille ils avaient un beau-fils. Ils l’ont très bien accepté et je crois qu’ils aiment bien mon copain.

I came out when I was 21. I needed time to accept that I was gay, but then it wasn’t difficult to tell it to other people. As my parents were in holidays, I sent them a sms where I asked them if it was a problem if they’ll have a son-in-law instead of a daughter-in-law. They took it easy and I think they appreciate my boyfriend quite well.

Mein Coming out war mit 21. Ich brauchte sehr lange, bis ich es mir eingestehen konnte schwul zu sein, es allen anderen zu sagen war dann nicht mehr so schwierig. Meinen Eltern, die in den Ferien waren, schickte ich eine SMS. Ich fragte sie, ob sie ein Problem damit hätten später mal anstatt einer Schwiegertochter einen Schwiegersohn zu haben. Sie nahm es sehr gut auf und ich glaube sie sind sehr zufrieden mit meinem Freund.

Tu es mignon, tu fais du sport, tu joues de la musique, tu es dans une relation sérieuse. Tu es presque un exemple parfait. As-tu aussi des défauts ?
You are cute, you play sport and music, and you are in a serious relationship. You are almost like the perfect example. Do you also have bad sides?
Du bist schön, machst Sport, spielst Musik, hast eine lange Beziehung, du wirkst wie das perfekte Vorbild. Hast du auch irgendwelche Schwächen?

J’ai la langue bien pendue et je n’hésite pas à dire ouvertement ce que je pense. Il y a des gens que ça dérange, c’est dommage. Mais je n’ai pas l’intention de changer cela. De plus, j’aime le sport, mais j’ai parfois besoin d’une réelle motivation pour renfiler mes chaussures de sports.

I have a sharp tongue and I openly say what I think. There are some people who have problems with it, it’s a shame. But I don’t want to change myself for them. Besides, I like to do sports, but it sometimes costs me a lot of efforts to wear my trainers.

Ich habe eine spitze Zunge, sage also gerne offen was ich denke. Es gibt Leute die damit nicht klar kommen, was schade ist. Möchte mich deswegen aber nicht verstellen. Weiter mache ich gerne Sport, brauche aber manchmal recht Überwindung bis ich die Turnschuh wieder anziehe.

Quels sont tes objectifs et tes projets en tant que Mr Gay Suisse 2010 ? Souhaites-tu participer aux concours internationaux ?
What your objectives and plans as Mr Gay Switzerland 2010? Do you plan to take part to international contests?
Was sind deine Ziele und Pläne als Mr Gay Schweiz 2010? Hast du vor, an den Internationalen Contests teilzunehmen?

Mon objectif principal est de donner le courage à d’autres gays et lesbiennes de vivre leur vie. Je vais sûrement participer à la marche des fiertés de Zurich du 3 au 6 juin, ainsi qu’à l’élection de Mr Gay International, qui aura lieu durant la parade. J’ai aussi hâte de voir ce que je vais pouvoir faire dans le domaine de la musique.

My principal objective is to give courage to other gays and lesbians to stand for who they are. I plan to take part to Zurich Pride, which will take place from the 3rd till the 6th of June and I also plan to take part to Mr Gay International, which will take place during the pride. I’m also looking forward for what could progress about music.

Das Hauptziel für mich ist es anderen Schwulen und Lesben Mut zu machen zu sich zu stehen. Anlässe an denen ich teilnehmen werde sind sicher die Pride in Zürich vom 3.-06. Juni sein, wie auch die Wahl zum MrGay International, welche während der Pride statt findet. Auch bin ich gespannt, was in Sachen Musik noch weiter geht.

Quelle est la situation de la Suisse en matière de droit LGTB ?  Que faudrait-il améliorer et comment ?
How is the situation for gay rights in Switzerland? What should be improved and how?
Wie ist die Lage in der Schweiz betreffend Schwulenrechte? Was sollte verbessert werden und wie?

Avec la loi pour le mariage civil, nous nous rapprochons de l’égalité avec les hétéros. Cependant, les homosexuels n’ont toujours pas le droit d’adopter. L’association « Famillienchancen » (La chance de la famille) se bat pour cela.

Personnellement, je trouve très dommage que les gens aient une image très clichés envers les gays. En tant que Mr Gay, je veux montrer que les homos ne sont pas tous des flamands roses. Même un voisin de palier peut être gay et cela n’est pas un problème.

With the law about civil partnership, we are near equality with straight people. However, homosexual people still don’t have the right to adopt. The association “Famillienchancen” (Chance of family) is involved in this battle.

In my opinion, it is a pity that the media promote a very caricatural image of gay people. As Mr Gay, I want to show that all gay people are not bird of paradise flowers. Even the next door neighbour can be gay and this is not a problem.

Mit dem Gesetz für die eingetragene Partnerschaft sind wie der Gleichstellung gegenüber den Heterosexuellen etwas näher gekommen. Jedoch dürfen Homosexuelle noch immer nicht adoptieren. Dafür setzt sich der Verein Familienchancen ein.

Persönlich finde ich es schade, dass die Leute durch die Medien ein sehr klischeehaftes Bild von uns Schwulen haben. Als MrGay möchte ich zeigen, dass nicht alle Schwulen bunte Paradiesvögel sind. Auch der freundliche Nachbar von nebenan kann homosexuell sein und das ist gut so.

Ricco Müller a été Mr Gay Suisse et aussi Mr Gay International. Quel effet ça fait d’être son successeur ?

Ricco Müller war MrGay Schweiz und auch Internationale MrGay, wie ist es, sein Nachfolger zu sein?

Je suis très fier d’être le successeur de Ricco. Il fait avancer beaucoup de choses pendant cette année et cela me motive pour aller encore plus loin.

I’m very proud to be Ricco’s successor. He achieved a lot during this year and this is a motivation for me to go further.

Ich bin sehr stolz Riccos Nachfolger zu sein. Er hat viel erreicht in seinem Amtsjahr, dies spornt mich an noch mehr Gas zu geben.

En France, il n’y a pas de Mr Gay. As-tu un message à faire passer aux gays de France ?
In France, there is no Mr Gay. Do you want to say something to French gay people?
In Frankreich gibt es keinen Mister Gay. Möchtest du etwas an die Schwulen in Frankreich sagen?

Il n’est pas nécessaire d’être Mr Gay pour faire bouger les choses. Ne te caches pas, sois fier de ce que tu es. Nous faisons avancer beaucoup de chose, lorsque nous montrons aux autres qu’il est tout à fait normal d’être un petit peu différent.

It is not necessary to be Mr Gay to make things change. Don’t hide, be proud of yourself. We mostly reached a lot when we show to other people that it’s normal to be a little different.

Du musst nicht MrGay sein um etwas bewirken zu können. Versteck dich nicht, steht zu dem was was du bist. Am meisten erreichen wir, wenn wir den Leuten vorleben, dass es ganz normal ist, ein bisschen anders zu sein.
